/LOOPING SOLO

LOOPING SOLO is a concert where Manuel de Oliveira adapts a selection of his own works to a solo concert format.

Using a technology that allows him to record a series of sounds in real-time, it is in a sublime manner that Manuel de Oliveira, with a guitar, a braguesa, and some percussion instruments, immerses us in a journey to his unique musical universe.

We could say that if silence were wild – which it is sometimes – Manuel is an enchanting charmer of silences, and our internal noises are tamed by his solo conversation.

SYNOPSIS

Before theater audiences fill up the seats, there are, strange as it may seem, those who engage in a dialogue with the silence that resides in these seemingly empty spaces. Imagining the sounds of footsteps, movements to the chairs, and the murmurs of surprise upon arrival, they greet the silence, initiating a ritual that calms the yearning that falls upon it. Manuel de Oliveira places himself in the first wing: the one between what is heard and what there is to be heard. Dialoguing with silence, he ensures understanding and company throughout the turmoil. Sometimes between silence and the spectator, sometimes between the spectator and the sound, in the face of the aphonia of spaces, this composer arms himself with his instrument as a voice and shows us how he converses with silence without even opening his mouth.

We could say that if silence were wild – which it is sometimes – Manuel is an enchanting charmer of silences, and our internal noises are tamed by his solo conversation.
